This presentation takes an in-depth look at lighting for modern open-ceiling applications. Several trends are actively shaping the way we work, and architecture is responding. The implications to lighting are examined, and important questions relative to conventional design methodology are raised. Several attributes are explored, leading to more apt depictions of both quantity and quality of light. Alternative metrics and a new lighting layer for interpersonal collaboration are proposed. The presentation concludes with an example demonstrating the energy-saving implications of this alternative approach.
